Fairwinds Estate Tahoe Wedding · Barbara and Greg

The Fairwinds Estate on Tahoe’s North Shore is elegant and beautiful, rustic and charming. Nestled into the terrain between boulders and trees, it has access to a lovely private pier and sandy beach. It was the perfect backdrop for Barb and Greg’s wedding, who are long-time Tahoe lovers. Barb tells us more below the images:

How did the two of you meet?

Greg and I met in the hospital where we were both working. He would help me with the patients I was treating and always had a mischievous look about him!

What is your favorite thing to do together?

We love to do anything outdoors, but our most favorite activity is mountain biking. Greg proposed to me on Mr Toad’s Wild ride, at the peak overlooking Hope Valley.

How did you choose Tahoe and specifically the Fairwinds for your wedding?

I had always wanted a wedding in Tahoe, Greg and I have had so many happy memories here.  Speedboat Beach is the most beautiful beach and we love the history and old time feel of the Fairwinds.

Tell us about why Greg wore a kilt, and the meaning behind the sword pins.

Greg wore his kilt in memory of his father Hugh McCabe who was from Scotland.  My father, who is also from Scotland, lived in a town only 10 min from Greg’s father. We are proud of our Scottish heritage!  The exchanging of the swords signified adopting each clan’s heritage and family.

What was your favorite moment of the day?

Besides the “I do“?  So many moments, but having such a beautiful blessed day, being with friends and family, sitting on the dock at the end of the day with the glorious colors of the sunset.

Anything else you’d like to share?

The dress is by Adele Wechsler.  It was a “green” dress made from organic silk.  The elements of the earth are incorporated into the design.  The dress was hand beaded by African women using pearls from the ocean, had designs of circles, triangles, and squares to represent eternity, fertility, and our connection to the earth.

The veil was cathedral style with a lovely long train.  It had a ribbon trim that matched my dress perfectly, and with the simple style of the dress I wanted to add a bit of drama.

One favorite memory was the groom and groomsmen arriving at the dock of the Fairwinds in the boat with the bagpiper playing. The sultry tones of the pipes could be heard from far away as the boat arrived and the bagpiper led all the men in. The wooden boat we chartered is The Wild Goose II. It really added a special touch to the day.

Our fabulous photographer was Nina!! I was drawn to her photos from images of past weddings and loved how she captured candid moments and expressions without a posed feel. I love the clarity and vivid colors of her photographs. She is easy to work with, flexible, and we at once felt comfortable and at ease. We could not recommend her more!
